Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott (pictured) has pledged $1 billion in state funds for border security, including money to build a border wall and establish a border security task force. The announcement in Del Rio on Thursday, June 10th, was applauded, but the plan has some important questions that remain, such as who will serve on Abbott’s task force?
Many community leaders and politicians will provide honest comments and advice to the Governor about border issues. But others will excuse and reward illegal immigration and argue for an open border.
Illegal immigration has historically been tolerated as a necessary evil because families and commerce that has gone back and forth across the border, since it was created. However, illegal immigration is now viewed as a “humanitarian” crisis by liberals and illegal aliens are rewarded with social services, benefits, employment, and education.
Sadly, most politicians and community leaders are afraid to speak out against migrants because they fear being branded “racist” by the liberal news media. Illegal aliens are now identified as “migrants” to be politically correct.
Also, many big business groups oppose stronger border security because they fear it will interfere with their international trade and access to cheap labor. Big money donors to politicians have a powerful voice in the Texas capitol, and they could influence, if not thwart Abbott’s plans.
Finally, there is the fallacy that tough border security and illegal immigration policies will offend and alienate the Hispanic community. However, Hispanics are heavily affected by illegal immigration and border crime because illegal aliens compete against them for resources and jobs, and criminals hide in their communities. Furthermore, the enthusiastic Hispanic response to the Trump hardline positions on illegal immigration and border security showed Hispanic voters, particularly along the border, are not offended.
As mentioned before, illegal immigration has long been tolerated, excused, and rewarded. Today, radical leftists are using it to colonize Texas and America and transform society, politics, and the economy.
Ultimately, when illegal immigration is excused and rewarded, it encourages more and worse illegal immigration. While the Biden administration makes illegal aliens welcome and does not punishes smugglers, Texas needs to take the opposite approach. We must not reward illegal aliens, and we must punish smugglers.
Hopefully, Governor Abbott will have a task force that will provide honest information and advice. We shall see.
