A Gallup World Poll of 453,000 people conducted between 2015 and 2017 has found that three quarters of a billion people, over 750,000,000 would like to migrate to another country. And not at all surprisingly, Western nations are the preferred destination for most of these people. Twenty-one percent, 158 million, name the U.S. as their destination of preference. Canada, Germany, France, Australia and the U.K. are the choice of more than 30 million. The poll was of adults, of course. Presuming that children would accompany their parents, the number would far exceed a billion people, given the live birthrate in the countries polled. Sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America lead the list.
Gallup lists the countries where at least half of the population would like to leave: Sierra Leone, Liberia, Haiti, Albania, El Salvador, Congo, Chana, Dominican Republic, Nigeria, Armenia, and Honduras. And where do they want to go?
Destination % millions
With the exceptions of Saudi Arabia and Japan, every nation in the top ten are Western Nations with primarily Western Culture, which has produced the greatest opportunity and most prosperity on the planet.
Who can blame these hundreds of millions of people for wanting to flee a miserable existence mired in poverty, disease, and political corruption, with little chance of personal opportunity regardless of how hard they work?
Gallup also comments:
U.S. Still Top Desired Destination for Potential Migrants
The countries where potential migrants say they would like to move — if they could — have generally been the same for the past 10 years. In fact, roughly 18 countries attract two-thirds of all potential migrants worldwide.
Although the image of U.S. leadership took a beating between 2016 and 2017, the U.S. continues to be the most desired destination country for potential migrants, as it has since Gallup started tracking these patterns a decade ago.
I think we all know what “… the image of U.S. leadership took a beating between 2016 and 2017… ” means.
Current “U.S. leadership” is resulting in increased economic opportunities and energy independence, and the whole world can see it.
There is no way that Western Culture, Western Nations and Western prosperity would survive the Third World onslaught if it was to occur.
The answer to relieving billions of people from the economic deprivation that fuels their desire to migrate, is to help those countries who want the help to begin taking measure toward economic self-sufficiency, which will increase prosperity in their home country.
The demand-economy trumps the command-economy every single time. Is it perfect? Nothing is perfect. But the demand-economy will create prosperity for the people in their home countries and reduce the desire to migrate.
We can and should protect our borders, our nation, and our culture. We can also create opportunities in the world that will benefit billions of people.
You have enemies? Good. That means you’ve stood up for something, sometime in your life. [Winston Churchill.]
