The recent claim that Barack Obama deported more people than all the other Presidents combined is just one more lie told by the open borders crowd to confuse and misdirect the debate on border security.
Emily Larson debunks this claim in a piece for The Daily Caller. She points out that any numbers reported are “not a direct comparison to removals by previous presidents.” And that is exactly right.
Besides doubting almost everything the swamp creatures of the Obama Administration would claim, we know that the term “deportation” was used widely to include all removals. One can see on this chart that it claims over 3 million illegals were removed between 2009 and 2016. However, as they well knew, all removals are not deportations.
And if the U.S. Border Patrol’s estimates are still accurate, on a good day, they catch one in five trying to enter, on a bad day, one in seven. Did 15 million illegals make it into America successfully during the Obama presidency?
Let me explain: First, there are official, court ordered, deportations. These can be ordered against both illegal aliens and legal immigrants for many reasons.
Secondly, there are Voluntary Repatriations (VRs). VRs can be Canadian, but are typically Mexican. If caught at the southern border, for example, the Mexican who is apprehended can elect Voluntary Repatriation, which, if a quick check of federal databases doesn’t raise any red flags, the illegal entrant is taken to the closest Port of Entry and allowed to walk through the check point, back into Mexico often as not … to try again tomorrow to sneak into America.
And thirdly, TBS, or Turn Back South, was the most recent border enforcement charade employed by the Obama Administration’s Border Patrol. If an agent encountered a group crossing the border illegally, he told them to “Turn Back South,” which, of course, meant go east or west until you don’t encounter any border patrol officers. And the TBS numbers were included in the removal numbers and also referred to as deportations.
I have heard recordings of border patrol radio traffic where the agent reports the TBS and the station responds by asking for an estimate of those “turned back south.”
And if you add all those numbers up, including the vastly inflated TBS numbers, you can claim you are vigorously working to defend our borders.
It is, of course, ridiculous to think that the Obama Administration came anywhere near a record number of deportations when it was encouraging young people to come illegally to America.
Obama originally created DACA in 2012 as an executive action and then expanded it in November of 2014.
Moral at the U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) suffered as enforcement was discouraged so much that the head of the USPB union criticized the administration.
And the number of removals, however you describe them, increased as the number of illegal aliens increased. During the administrations of Clinton, Bush and Obama, the world was getting the word that if they tried to make it, they probably would. Thus, everything increased.
If you hear reports about apprehensions being down along the southern border, look at the calendar. As the weather warms, expect increased numbers attempting to cross illegally.
Also, it is probable that our current enforcement efforts, which are being whined about by open borders advocates, is having a discouraging effect on traffic … as will the wall.
