The current law breaking and protection of criminal aliens by New York City officials is astounding and threatens all the citizens and tourists of that once great city.
From January to mid April of this year, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) issued more than 440 immigration detainers against illegal aliens booked by the New York Police Department (NYPD) or New York Department of Corrections. Nearly 40 of those released from custody, without notifying ICE, committed crimes and were arrested again. How many committed crimes for which they were not caught? Multiply by 6, and that is probably pretty close.
This quote from the ICE website says it quite succinctly:
In just three months, more than three dozen criminal aliens were released from local custody. Simply put, the politics and rhetoric in this city are putting its own communities at an unnecessary risk, said Scott Mechowski, acting field office director for the ERO (Enforcement and Removal Operations) in New York.
Just a couple examples of those released by New York officials from the ICE website:
- A 28-year old Salvadoran man arrested for Assault in March was released, then again arrested for Robbery in April.
- A 20-year old from Jamaica arrested for Possession of a Weapon in April. His criminal history also includes arrests for Fraud, Robbery and Homicide.
Robbery, assault, homicide. Outrageous!
I am reminded of the terrific 1981 movie “Prince of the City” based on the 1979 nonfiction book of the same title by Robert Daley, former Deputy Commissioner of the New York Police Department. Having seen it up close, Daley tells the story of a thoroughly corrupt New York City Police Department.
The corruption in the NYPD had gone on for decades, finally exposed by NYPD officer Frank Serpico in 1970, resulting in a front-page story in the New York Times.
How times have changed. And this time it’s the entire New York City bureaucracy that is corrupt.
Violent perpetrators are being shielded from enforcement and removal; the city’s residents are put at even greater risk by these criminal aliens, the vicious MS-13 gang is running rampant in the boroughs and on Long Island, and yet the sanctimonious bureaucrats who run the city are just fine with releasing violent criminals back onto their streets. We need H.R. 5884 for New York, as well as Oakland, California.
Yes, the New Princes of the City.
You have enemies? Good. That means you’ve stood up for something, sometime in your life. [Winston Churchill.]
