Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is like the gift that keeps on giving when it comes to the immigration debate.
Some of her quotes as a congressional candidate:
Before ICE, we had Immigration and Naturalization Services, but it wasn’t until about 1999 that we chose to criminalize immigration at all. And then, once ICE was established, we really kind of militarized that enforcement to a degree that was previously unseen in the United States. [June 2018.]
In an interview with an Al-Jazeera affiliate, candidate Cortez said, I think that we should grant people a safe and documented rite of passage. [July 2018.]
It’s time to abolish ICE, clear the path to citizenship … . [October 9, 2018.]
Quotes as an elected representative:
The women and children on that border that are trying to seek refuge and seek opportunity in the United States of America with nothing but the shirts on their back are acting more American than any person who seeks to keep them out ever will be. [January 2019.]
She sounds like she shares Nancy Pelosi’s attitude about illegal aliens.
In June, she compared ICE detention facilities to WWII “concentration camps.”
And on Monday, July 1, with several members of congress, she visited a U.S. Border Patrol Station in El Paso and reportedly came out screaming at federal agents and claimed in a Tweet that Officers were keeping women in cells with no water and had told them to drink out of the toilets.
Her claim was shredded by Brandon Judd, President of the National Border Patrol Council
Judd said that cameras that film the facilities would show that Ocasio-Cortez was lying:
I’m calling on CBP to release that footage, so they clearly show that she was treated with the utmost dignity and respect … . Nobody is ‘forced’ to drink out of a toilet and nobody is ‘told’ to drink out of a toilet, Judd explained. It’s completely and totally a baseless and ridiculous allegation and frankly it needs to be investigated and she needs to be exposed.
However, Ocasio-Cortez did admit that the detainees were given shampoo.
July begins only her sixth month in office, and already she is a treasure trove of immigration/border security stupidity.
Keep it up!
Interestingly, if you go to her House of Representatives website, immigration isn’t one of the issues listed.
You have enemies? Good. That means you’ve stood up for something, sometime in your life.[Winston Churchill.]
