A lot of stupidity has exposed itself since two homicidal maniacs murdered at least 31 people in separate incidents last weekend. There should be sincere discussions about how to predict and prevent future mayhem of this kind.
But in addition to those sincerely trying to find some workable prevention measures, we have the stupid political class who can’t seem to stop at political fundraising off this atrocity, some have to run their mouths in the most ridiculous manner.
Example: A Princeton University Professor of African American Studies, Eddie Glaude, said on Meet The Press on Sunday that no one should use dehumanizing language. What did he cite as dehumanizing? The term he cited: “illegal immigrant.”
He says this type of language is dangerous because it sets the stage for violence.
He got more unhinged. Former North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory was part of the discussion group on the set when Glaude said to him, “Children. You use this Governor, children carrying perhaps disease across the border. What happens? You set the stage for people who are even more on the extreme to act violently.” He also declared that, “No human being is illegal!” He is completely ignorant of the fact that what he wants to ban is referring to “behavior.”
According to this credentialed leftist, you can’t even point out that those entering our country illegally might be infected with a disease. Some are infected with diseases, which we know as a fact.
As politics get more polarized with each passing day, one of the tactics of the open border/pro illegal immigration crowd is to simply silence anyone they disagree with. They used to try to end the debate by simply screaming, “racist.” It’s not as effective as it once was.
Those who oppose secure borders and immigration enforcement cannot win a debate with facts. Most Americans want our borders secure and are opposed to amnesty for illegal aliens. If that wasn’t so, we would have had another amnesty, if not during the Bush Administration, then certainly at some point in Obama’s eight years. It didn’t happen because there is not a majority of American voters who support it.
So what’s the best tactic to use when you can’t win a debate on the facts? Political correctness, with which you set such conditions that facts cannot be presented. You change the language, like Associated Press did in 2013, when their “style book” dropped the term “Illegal immigrant” joining ABC, NBC and CNN in not using the term.
This is exactly what George Orwell described as “Newspeak” in his dystopian novel, 1984.
It’s probably been decades since most of us have read 1984. With the current culture war in America becoming more heated every day, it’s time to read it again.
In the Principals of Newspeak in the appendix of the book, Orwell describes exactly what AP, ABC, NBC, CNN and many others, now including Professor Glaude, are imposing on our discourse.
The purpose of Newspeak was not only to provide a medium of expression for the world-view and mental habits proper to the devotees of IngSoc, (English Socialism) but to make all other modes of thought impossible. It was intended that when Newspeak had been adopted…a thought diverging from the principles of IngSoc — should be literally unthinkable, at least so far as thought is dependent on words. Its vocabulary was so constructed as to give exact and often very subtle expression to every meaning that a Party member could properly wish to express, while excluding all other meaning and also the possibility of arriving at them by indirect methods. This was done partly by the invention of new words, but chiefly by eliminating undesirable words and stripping such words as remained of unorthodox meanings, and so far as possible of all secondary meaning whatever. Emphasis added.
The devotees to open borders are eliminating “illegal immigrant.” The correct legal term “illegal alien” has also been purged.
And by changing the description, the illegal aspect has been eliminated from the discussion and replaced with the less-accurate, but more seemingly harmless term “undocumented worker,” which is now insisted upon by the modern “Party,” which can be described as open border zealots and their supporters in the media.
Political correctness is Newspeak.
Professor, a brief lesson: illegal immigrants are illegal aliens. Undocumented workers are illegal aliens. People who are in our country illegally are illegal aliens.
And that is double-plus un-good for America and Americans.
You have enemies? Good. That means you’ve stood up for something, sometime in your life. [Winston Churchill.]
