The trial of the alleged illegal alien murderer of 20-year-old college student Mollie Tibbets in Brooklyn, Iowa, has been moved from Poweshiek County, where she was brutally stabbed to death in 2018, to Woodbury County on the state’s western border, by the Missouri River.
The accused, 25-year-old Cristhian Bahena Rivera, is an illegal alien from Mexico. Rivera reportedly came to America illegally as a child. However, after living in the U.S. for at least 20 years, he still hasn’t learned enough English, so the taxpayers of Iowa are paying for a translator.
The trial was moved in March at the request of the defense team, of course, and by state prosecutors.
It was argued by the defense that Poweshiek County, about an hour east of Des Moines, with more than a 90% white population, would not give the accused a fair trial:
Without venue where a minority population is substantially represented, (Bahena-Rivera) cannot be fairly tried and any jury pool chosen will have to be stricken … . A fair and impartial trial cannot be preserved with a jury selected from Poweshiek County.
So there you have it. The court agreed that a white majority population cannot be impartial, but jurors in Woodbury County, which has a Hispanic population exceeding 16%, will be.
Iowa, which has 11 counties where the Hispanic population exceeds ten percent and has a number of official and unofficial sanctuary cities and counties, because many businesses, including farms and meat packing plants, employ thousands of illegal aliens.
The official sanctuary jurisdictions are listed on the Center for Immigration Studies Sanctuary Cities Map in Iowa are:
Iowa City, Johnson County
A number of things of which to take note. Rivera came as a child and grew up, presumably, in America’s heartland. He never attempted to become legal. He never learned English. He committed felonies by working in our country illegally using a stolen ID and Social Security card, and now is an alleged murderer.
The attitude in Iowa by many is to look the other way when it comes to illegal immigration, because Mexicans provide cheap labor. Illegal alien workers in the meat packing industry decimated wages in the 1990s, which had provided a good living to generations of American workers.
But as equally disturbing as a 20-year-old young woman being brutally murdered by an illegal alien, who shouldn’t have been here in the first place, is the decision to try the Mexican defendant in a community which has a large percentage of Hispanics.
Will illegal aliens be on the jury? We don’t know how strict the vetting process is. But clearly the defense successfully won a venue with a higher likelihood of prejudice in favor of the defendant.
What is next, juries chosen based on religion?
