Last week, Newsday reported on a deadly, alcohol-fueled crash caused by “a Locust Valley [New York] man.” The drunk driver slammed into an ambulance, which overturned, and left the patient dead, and the ambulance driver injured.
Newsday reported the following facts about the case:
“Alvaro Gutierrez-Garcia, 27, was arraigned Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead [New York] and charged with first-degree vehicular manslaughter, aggravated DWI and two counts of driving while intoxicated.
The patient, Denis Motherway, 85, of Bayville [New York], who had an unrelated medical condition, went into cardiac arrest due to the collision and was pronounced dead at Glen Cove Hospital, according to charging documents.
Police said Gutierrez-Garcia was intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of .18, more than twice the legal limit.”
However, what Newsday, along with every other New York City-area media outlet failed to report was that the victim, 85-year-old Denis Motherway, was a retired NYPD officer, and that his killer, Alvaro Gutierrez-Garcia, is in the country illegally. (You remember him…that “Locust Valley man.”)
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement released the following statement:
On Sept. 4, ICE lodged a detainer with the Nassau County Correctional Center on Alvaro Gutierrez Garcia, an illegally present Salvadoran national, after his arrest on multiple felony charges, including vehicular homicide.
Now, why do you suppose they left out those two rather important facts?
Surely, if this mere citizen-journalist could discover this information, such a large outfit could do the same.
After all, Newsday boasts of a daily circulation of 437,000 subscribers; has had such big-name columnists as Jimmy Breslin and Mike Lupica on its staff, along with their former publisher, Bill Moyers; has 19 Pulitzer Prizes under its belt; and sold in 2008 to Cablevision for the princely sum of $650 million, at a time when newspapers across the country were shuttering their doors for good.
Apparently, another drunk illegal alien killing an American, in this case, a retired police officer, just doesn’t fit Newsday’s obvious political agenda. You see, we are currently living through what will one day be known as the ‘post-fact era!’
