On Tuesday, December 10, at 3:00 PM EST, Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) will introduce H.R. 5038 – Farmworker Workforce Modernization Act of 2019. Looking at the title, one could think, “Well, yeah, why not modernize the farm workforce?” But as usual with the open borders crowd, the title is a lie, designed to mask the reality which is that this is an amnesty for illegal aliens, who are working illegally in our country right now.
The summary of the bill lies in the first sentence. It refers to illegal alien farmworkers as “alien farmworkers,” and establishes a new bureaucratic feature, the Certified Agricultural Worker CAW).
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) may grant CAW status to an applying alien who (1) performed at least 1,035 hours of agricultural labor during the two-year period prior to October 30, 2019, (2) was inadmissible or deportable on that date, and (3) has been continuously present in the United States from that date until receiving CAW status.
Just make the above claims, which won’t be verified, and the illegal alien is protected for 5 ½ years from deportation and has legal work authorization. Even if they are in deportation proceedings, they are protected and get to stay.
And A CAW alien (and dependents) may apply for lawful permanent resident status … . So, of course, a whole lot of fraudulent dependents are going to be claimed.
This bill also makes available farmworker housing loans for housing assistance: SECTION 521 HOUSING ASSISTANCE.—There is authorized to be appropriated $2,700,000,000 for each of fiscal years 2020 through 2029 for rental assistance agreements entered into or renewed pursuant to section 521(a)(2) (42 U.S.C. 1490a(a)(2)) or agreements entered into in lieu of debt forgiveness or payments for eligible households as authorized by section 502(c)(5)(D).
In addition to helping “Big Ag” keep their illegal alien workers, and their families, this additional sweetener of $24 billion dollars of taxpayer money will be made available in the form of loans over the next nine years.
Illinois Senator Everett Dirksen is purported to have once said about government spending, “A billion here, a billion there, and pretty soon you’re talking about real money.”
It’s a 291-page bill, so as Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi said of the Affordable Care Act in 2010: “We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it.”
I doubt this amnesty will be approved by the Senate, or if it is, it won’t be signed by President Trump. However, Congressional members of both parties need to be told, immediately, that this amnesty by another name is completely, totally unacceptable to the American people.
