The horrific discovery of illegal aliens in a truck in San Antonio, Texas, nine cooked to death in the summer heat and another twenty in serious or extremely critical condition is just the latest horrific example of human trafficking and illegal immigration.
Human trafficking in the 21st century takes on many despicable forms. End Slavery Now includes domestic servitude, forced labor, child labor, sex trafficking, bonded labor, and forced marriage in its list of trafficking. Regarding sex trafficking they say:
Some traffickers operate under the guise of agencies that offer cross-country dating services. However, upon arrival, these individuals are abused, threatened and sold in the sex industry.
The smuggling of illegal aliens and all human trafficking must be declared and prosecuted as a Hate Crime.
If we are going to single out some crimes as more heinous and more objectionable than others, then add human trafficking to the list. And for those who are caught smuggling people into our country, it will add another level of penalties, especially if any of the people they are smuggling in die during the process.
Include as perpetrators of the hate crime: Coyotees who lead groups through the desert and into our country illegally. Include those who run “safe houses” where illegal aliens are stored until they move on to their destination. Charge everyone arrested in the process of illegal immigration, including the driver of the load vehicle who picks them up once they have illegally entered our country. Charge them all with the hate crime of human smuggling.
In June, the U.S. State Department released its 454-page Trafficking in Persons report. A keyword search of the report for “sex” has over 2,900 references, including child sexual abuse, exploitation, trafficking, bondage, child sex tourism, and on and on. This disgusting human exploitation should be prosecuted with the toughest penalties for everyone involved.
Congress should pass a law immediately that makes all human trafficking a Hate Crime and prosecute it and publicize it as such.
The news reports of tough prosecution of smuggling will add to the deterrent message we are sending criminals and potential illegal aliens. And it will reduce the number of victims of human smuggling, as well.
You have enemies? Good. That means you’ve stood up for something, sometime in your life. [Winston Churchill.]
